Daniel Wesley

This experienced athlete from the New Westminster, BC started first skiing quite late at the age of 25 years. In 1973, Daniel fell under a moving freight train and lost his leg. After this incident he decided to become focused and excel in skiing.  He tried a 7-11 learn to ski program, and has never looked back. He trained with Terry Fox and Rick Hansen; they both showed him that anything is possible. In 1978 he first participated in the Wheelchair racing; in 1979 in Track and field; followed by Alpine skiing in 1992.  The year 2002 was very great for Daniel. He won gold in SL, silver in Super G, and a bronze in DH at the 2002 Paralympics Salt lake games. He achieved a 3rd place overall in the World cup rankings in 2003. Daniel’s helpful, happy and cheerful nature has helped him always to achieve his goals in life. He loves to race in Austria particularly Giant Slalom. A unique quality of this versatile athlete is that he makes his own equipment. He enjoys promoting the sport by talking to other disabled about the excitement, about the ways to become all you can. He believes in ‘live and let live’ and would always like to make his country proud.
