Swimming Canada announces team for 2007 Parapanamerican Games

10 July 2007

OTTAWA (July 10) –Swimming Canada is pleased to announce its team for the first ever Parapanamerican Games.

The Parapanamerican Games are scheduled for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from August 12-19th. The swimming events will take place at the Speedway Sports Complex Aquatics August 13-18th.

This will be the first time the event will take place immediately after and in the same city as the Panamerican Games in July. The Canadian Team of 21 swimmers, composed mostly of veterans, are all possible candidates of making the 2008 Paralympic team next year in Beijing.

“The Parapanamerican Games will be an important part of preparation as we head into the Paralympics in 2008,” said Craig McCord, National Coach for SWAD. “It will be an opportunity for veterans to practice their race skills in a Games situation and another chance for them to gain international experience leading up to the possibility of making the Paralympic team.”
