World Records Confirmed From BT Paralympic World Cup

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has confirmed that last week’s BT Paralympic World Cup saw five World records broken during Friday’s track and field events.

South African ‘Blade Runner’ Oscar Pistorius set a new T43 World record in the Men’s 400m recording a time of 47.28 seconds. This beat his previous best time of 47.49s, set at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.

Great Britain’s Richard Whitehead set a new T42 World record in the same race with a time of 57.06s.

In the field, Great Britain’s Daniel Greaves broke his own Discus F44 World record with a throw of 59.27m adding nearly 30cm to his own previous record set earlier this year at the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships.

Saudi Arabia’s Hani Alankhilli also broke the Discus World record in the F33 class with a throw of 31.29m. This improved his own world’s best throw, set at the Asian Para Games last December by 1.59m.
