Wheelchair Basketball Canada To Take Part In NBA Jam Session August 20-21, 2011 In Vancouver

Vancouver, BC – Wheelchair Basketball Canada is thrilled to participate in NBA Jam Session taking place the weekend of August 20-21, 2011 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre Plaza in Vancouver, BC. Media and spectators are invited to learn the basics of the sport through an interactive wheelchair basketball clinic and witness some of the skill and athleticism on display in a demonstration game.

  • Wheelchair basketball clinic at 1:30 p.m. (PT) and demo game at 2:45 p.m. (PT) on Saturday
  • Interactive basketball activities from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Sunday

Two-time Paralympic gold medallist and World Champion Richard Peter will be on hand to take pictures and sign autographs at NBA Jam Session in Vancouver. A Vancouver native, Peter is a current member of the Sr. Men's National Wheelchair Basketball Team and a hopeful for the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.

Joining Peter in Vancouver is an impressive cast of local talent, including Paralympic bronze medallist and World Champion Shira Golden, as well as National Champions Makiko Harada, Erik Hagreen and Anthony Purcell.

The weekend will also feature appearances by NBA legend Robert Horry, Buckets Blakes of the Harlem Globetrotters, members of the Toronto Dance Pak, and The Gorilla, the official mascot of the NBA’s Phoenix Suns.

NBA Jam Session is a free interactive basketball festival travelling to six Canadian cities including Halifax, Montreal, Winnipeg, Calgary, Vancouver, and Toronto. The weekend combines NBA excitement and activities with a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, with appearances by NBA personalities, mascots, dancers and the Harlem Globetrotters.
