Press Release
Today, the Canadian Paralympic Committee announced the members of the Canadian team that will take part in the IV Parapan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.
I would like to congratulate all of the athletes who will represent our country at this major competition.
Our Government is proud to work with the Canadian Paralympic Committee and the sport community to raise awareness of Paralympic sport and support our athletes with disabilities. These athletes are an inspiration and a source of pride for all Canadians.
Close to 1,500 athletes from more than 30 countries will be taking part in the IV Parapan American Games from November 12 to 20, 2011. These participants, the best parasport athletes of the Americas, will compete against one another in 13 different disciplines, and some will seek to qualify for the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.
On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I wish much success to all the Canadian athletes taking part in the Games. I would also like to thank the coaches, parents, and friends who offer their unwavering support to our athletes so that they are able to reach new heights in their sport.
