Head Coach Orr to lead the program through 2012

02 November 2010

The Canadian Wheelchair Sports Association (CWSA) is pleased to announce that wheelchair rugby Head Coach, Kevin Orr, has been contracted to lead the national team program through the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.

Coach Orr joined the program in April of last year. “In spite of a disappointing result at the recent World Championships in Richmond, BC, the program has flourished under his leadership” said Wheelchair Rugby High Performance Director Andy Van Neutegem. This was evident in Canada’s game against the USA, with Canada losing by only one goal in a very closely contested match. “Canada was the only team to challenge the dominant team from the USA.

Coach Orr brings more than twenty – five years of experience in wheelchair sport and wheelchair rugby, at the international, national and regional levels to the program. “His passion for developing the sport from the grass roots to the Paralympic Games is a big plus for us” said CWSA Executive Director Catherine Cadieux. “I can’t be focused solely on the national team” said Coach Orr. “I have to look beyond the current talent in the program to ensure that Canada will be ready to perform in 2016 and 2020.”

In other news, Assistant Coach Adam Frost is stepping away from the national team program to focus his attention on his provincial coaching responsibilities with BC Wheelchair Sports.
