“I was really confident,” she said following the race. “I didn’t want to get ahead of myself but I knew I had to ski strong in the second run. I was cautiously optimistic and it turned out great.”
She completed the challenging Kandahar Bogarta course in 1:57.81--1.61 seconds ahead of the silver medallist, Andrea Rothfuss of Germany. The gold medal was Lauren’s third of her Paralympic career and she has one more shot at gold this Saturday in the Slalom.
Williamson’s leg is now in a cast and he will view the rest of the games from the sidelines. “You can’t make the run without the risk, I’m afraid,” said Williamson. “This can happen every time you ski.”
Arly Fogarty (Montreal, QC) finished in 15th place. Matthew Hallat of (Coquitlam, BC) finished 32rd in the men’s GS competition.
Canada’s sledge hockey team will face Germany in the second semi-final at 8:30PM at the Torino Esposizioni. The winner of this game will face Norway in the Gold Medal Game on March 18th, and the loser will face USA in the Bronze Medal Game.
The Canadian Wheelchair Curling team, ranked 1st after the Round Robin, took advantage of a day off as they prepare to face Norway, who defeated Denmark in a tie-breaker game yesterday. The semi-final round will start at 11AM on March 17th. The Bronze Medal Game is on March 17th at 4PM, and the Gold Medal Game is March 18th at 11AM.
