21 June 2007

OTTAWA (June 21) – The Canadian National Men’s Wheelchair Basketball team will be in Ottawa to participate in a week-long intensive training camp from June 25-29 at Algonquin College in Ottawa. Canada is the defending Paralympic Games gold medalist and current World champion.

The team is gearing up for the ParaPanAmerican Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, running from August 12-19, 2007.

The top three teams at the Rio Games will qualify for the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Summer Games.

It is the first national training camp for Ottawa’s Corey Smith, who was named to the national team in May 2007.

The team will practice from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily in the main gym at Algonquin College, Building A, 1385 Woodroffe Avenue, Ottawa.

The media is invited to come out and see the world’s best wheelchair basketball players in action. Many of them are likely to be on the floor in Beijing in 2008.
