Football Canada has adapted their
Canadian Flag Football Rules for people with a disability to participate. The
nature of the game is identical to North American Flag Football. Participants in
a wheelchair play the game in a gymnasium, while participants with an amputation
can play the game outside on a grass or turf field.
Known as Para-Flag Football, the game is
played in a 5 vs. 5 format. The objective is to stop the opposing team from
gaining ground and scoring a touchdown. The defensive side can either interfere
with the quarterback’s throw to one of his/her own team players or remove a
flag from the belt/wheelchair of the offensive player carrying the ball to stop
the play. The offensive side has three downs to get to midline and then another
to get to score a touchdown (four downs).
