I know someone who has a disability: how do I connect them to parasport?
In addition to the valuable roles that people can play as coaches, officials or volunteers, you may know
someone with a disability and would like to get them connected to parasport - either for the fun of it or
to stay physically fit.
You are well positioned to play a key role in educating and encouraging clients and patients to try parasport. Book a free Changing Minds, Changing Lives presentation which will give you and your colleagues a chance to learn more about the benefits of parasport participation and how to help them get involved.
Participation in parasport has educational and social benefits for all students. More and more teachers are bringing parasport into the classroom and gymnasium to provide an enriching experience about the Paralympic Movement and the greater social issues of inclusion and diversity. The It's the Real Deal educational program provides online resources and activities for you to draw on to support many of your subjects, including physical activity, literature, geography, and mathematics.
You can also play a key role in getting your loved ones off the sidelines and onto the playing field. This can take shape in a variety of ways:
- by playing a parasport with them;
- by helping locate a local parasport club or program near them; or
- by encouraging and supporting them during their parasport activities.
Without a doubt - parasport helps people build confidence, experience and a sense of accomplishment. Help someone you know get connected to parasport today!
