General Overview; 1988 Winter Paralympic Games – Innsbruck, Austria

The 1988 Paralympic Winter Games were again held in Innsbruck, Austria, from January 17 to 24. The Paralympics were not held at the same Olympic venue in Calgary, Canada, because of financial and recruiting difficulties. A total of 397 athletes from 22 countries took part in these Games. The USSR competed at a Paralympic Games for the first time. Sit-skiing was introduced as another event in both the Alpine and Nordic competitions.
